Givens Communities respects the beliefs and individual spiritual journeys of residents and team members alike, and through the Spiritual Care Department offers non-judgmental support.
There are ecumenical worship services and opportunities for growth on all four campuses, as well as for the community at-large. Chaplains lead worship and various workshops and counsel and assist families in planning for memorial or life celebration services. They visit residents and team members in the hospital or home as needs arise.
Spiritual Care helps support or facilitate a religious experience for many traditions, making sure that residents have religious opportunities that meet their own background and beliefs, perhaps a Protestant Christian service on Sunday, a Sufi iftar celebration on Thursday, or a Jewish Shabbat gathering on Friday.
“Sometimes we are leading a book study on a surprising range of topics – religious, philosophical, or current issues,” said Brenda Lewis, Spiritual Care director. “We might be helping in Earth Day planning or leading a philosophical discussion at a Table Talk. We love to make visits, offering support during times of transition or stress, or just getting to know you better.
“Sometimes you’ll find one of us offering a presentation on beekeeping, or playing percussion in the New Year’s Eve dance band, or sharing a travelogue on climbing Mount Kilimanjaro,” she said.
